Commercial Mushroom Cultivation (Button / Oyster / Milky Mushroom) under Controlled Environment Farming

Objective of the Project

To establish a scientifically managed, year-round mushroom cultivation unit using modern controlled-environment techniques. The project aims to generate sustainable income, create self-employment opportunities, ensure efficient utilization of agricultural waste, and enhance farmer profitability under horticulture and agri-based subsidy schemes.

Capacity of the Unit

  • Total Growing Area: 2,000 sq. ft. (Indoor Controlled Cultivation Facility)

Technology & Farm Management

  • Controlled environment cultivation with temperature and humidity regulation
  • Use of scientifically prepared compost and high-quality certified spawn
  • Hygienic production chambers with proper ventilation and sanitation protocols
  • Continuous monitoring of environmental parameters for optimal yield
  • Technical training and guidance support from the Horticulture Department and Krushi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)

Production & Income Potential

  • Short crop cycle of approximately 30–45 days, enabling multiple production cycles annually
  • Regular harvesting ensures faster cash flow and steady revenue generation
  • Strong and growing market demand from hotels, retailers, supermarkets, and food processors
  • High-value crop with scalable commercial potential

Employment Generation

  • Direct self-employment through commercial cultivation operations
  • Additional employment for 1–2 workers during peak production, harvesting, and packaging cycles
  • Skill development in controlled environment agriculture and post-harvest management

Expected Benefits & Impact

  • High productivity and strong returns from limited indoor space
  • Effective recycling and utilization of agricultural waste as compost substrate
  • Production of nutritious and high-protein food products
  • Promotion of sustainable agri-entrepreneurship and modern farming practices
